PERSONAL PROTECTION OF WOMEN

-AGAINST OUTRAGING OF MODESTY

-CITIZENS INITIATIVES

I. HOW OFFICERS ARE COMMITTED (OUTRAGING MODESTY)

       Ø      On public transport, in buses, local trains etc.,

Ø      In crowded areas like very busy markets, theaters, function places, religious and other social gatherings etc.,

Ø      In isolated places, like parks; dark lonely streets, deserted bus stops, railway platforms, lifts, isolated corridors 

Ø      Young girls can get molested  or raped  on their first date with a stranger whom they met online on a chat.

Ø      At work place by superiors

 

II.  PREVENTIVE MEASURES: 

  1. Never enter the lifts with a stranger, wait for the next turn 
  1. When coming home late ask your family members to wait at the bus stop preferably to escort you home 
  1. Always use the “ladies” doorway  to enter and exit in a public transport 
  1.  If someone is found touching you inappropriately alert other passengers and seek the help of the driver 
  1. Never take short cuts through dark, deserted places. Keep to well lit areas where there are people and traffic. 
  1. Don’t go for a walk or jog in a completely secluded area. 
  1. Be alert about your surroundings. If you suspect some one following you, do not panic. Just walk to the nearest Police Station or use your cell phone to call for help or just walk to the nearest public place where people are seen or any business premises. 
  1. If your assailant is armed and you feel, you may not be able to physically defend yourself, do no resist violently, as it may provoke the assailant further. Be calm and buy time by delaying his moves further. Look carefully at the assailant and remember his distinct  features. 
  1. Do not disclose your personal details on any website on the internet (ex. social networking sites) 
  1. Parents should warn their children on the dangers of internet chat. 

Do not hesitate to inform the next superiors, if your immediate superior is found making  indecent advances towards you. Do not ignore early signals.
